Overview

7652 (1991 RL5) is a large asteroid orbiting between Mars and Jupiter in the main portion of the asteroid belt. NASA JPL has not classified 1991 RL5 as potentially hazardous because its orbit does not bring it close to Earth.

1991 RL5 orbits the sun every 1,940 days (5.31 years), coming as close as 2.41 AU and reaching as far as 3.67 AU from the sun. 1991 RL5 is about 10.0 kilometers in diameter, making it larger than 99% of asteroids, comparable in size to the city of Boston.

The rotation of 1991 RL5 has been observed. It completes a rotation on its axis every 5.25 hours.

1991 RL5's orbit is 1.43 AU from Earth's orbit at its closest point. This means that there is an extremely wide berth between this asteroid and Earth at all times.

1991 RL5's orbit is determined by observations dating back to Oct. 22, 1954. It was last officially observed on Nov. 11, 2022. The IAU Minor Planet Center records 2,898 observations used to determine its orbit.

This asteroid is not considered a viable target for human exploration by the NHATS study.
